"In the lead up to the 20th anniversary of KINGDOM HEARTS in 2022, SQUARE ENIX® and Disney today announced that 10 magical KINGDOM HEARTS titles will make their long-awaited debut on Nintendo Switch as three standalone cloud releases," writes Square Enix. "The streaming versions of KINGDOM HEARTS, the best-selling action RPG series, will be available to purchase individually and as the all-in-one KINGDOM HEARTS INTEGRUM MASTERPIECE for Cloud collection."

First released in 2002 for the Playstation 2, Kingdom Hearts follows the journey of Sora, a teenage adventurer who travels to different worlds to protect them from encroaching monsters called the Heartless using a mystical weapon known as the Keyblade. Notably, most of the worlds Sora visits are based on films from the Walt Disney animated canon, with our hero exploring locales like Neverland from Peter Pan or Agrabah from Aladdin while teaming up with Donald Duck and Goofy along the way. The game was a hit upon release, spawning several sequels and spin-offs over multiple consoles. The series has sold more than 32 million copies around the world.

The latest mainline entry in the series is Kingdom Hearts III, which was released in 2019. This was followed by Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory, a rhythm game featuring the franchise's most iconic tracks, which launched in 2020.

2022 will see Kingdom Hearts celebrate its 20th anniversary. Square Enix has teased a special event to celebrate the milestone with new merchandise to go along with it. Nintendo also recently announced that Sora will be the final DLC character added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, joining the game on Oct. 18.
