Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory will be a first for the 18-year-old series, releasing on the Nintendo Switch in addition to PlayStation and Xbox consoles. However, according to the series' director Tetsuya Nomura, there are currently no plans to bring the other games to the Switch.

Nintendo Enthusiast said, "Through a translator, Tetsuya Nomura confirmed there are currently no specific plans for more Kingdom Hearts games on Switch. Square Enix did consider ports of existing games for Switch in the past but found that it was technologically difficult."

Nomura said the Switch was "a very appealing piece of hardware" and that he had always wanted to create something for the console. Though more Kingdom Hearts games on the Switch is currently unlikely to happen, Nintendo Life said "it is possible another game of his could come to Switch."

When Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory releases, it will become one of the few games in the series to ever be released on a Nintendo console. In the game, by clearing stages, the player will unlock a music player and story cinematics which allow them to relive select scenes from the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Additionally, there will be an online component for players to team up. The Switch port of the game, in particular, will have an exclusive "free for all" mode, which features local play for eight players.

Other modes in the game are available cross-platform. These modes include "memory dive," which allows the player to traverse through memories of past stages. Another mode is "boss battle," where the player fights against enemies iconic to the series by dodging their attacks.

One of the biggest draws, however, is that Melody of Memory will feature a brand-new Kairi-centric chapter set after the events of Kingdom Hearts III. After Kingdom Hearts III, Sora gave his life for Kairi, though the secret ending hinted that Sora might be "alive" in The World Ends With You's Shibuya setting, where he has somehow met up with Yozora, a character based off Tetsuya Nomura's original vision for Final Fantasy XV. In Kairi's storyline, she has vowed to get Sora back and using the means in Melody of Memory to make it happen.

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory arrives on Playstation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch Nov. 13.
