King of the Hill fans can officially rejoice as the animated series officially received a revival for Hulu, with creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels and five of the original voice cast making a return.

While rumors of a King of the Hill revival have swirled for years, The Hollywood Reporter shared today that Hulu ordered a straight-to-series order, with Mike Judge and Greg Daniels returning to executive produce the cartoon alongside showrunner Saladin Patterson (ABC's The Wonder Years). In addition to the return of the creators, original voice cast members Kathy Najimy (Peggy Hill), Stephen Root (Bill Dauterive, Buck Strickland), Pamela Adlon (Bobby Hill), Johnny Hardwick (Dale Gribble) and Lauren Tom (Minh Souphanousinphone, Kahn 'Connie' Souphanousinphone Jr.) are all making a triumphant return.

Hulu’s Excitement for King of the Hill’s Revival

Craig Erwich, president, ABC Entertainment, Hulu and Disney Branded Television streaming originals, said, "We are all so excited to welcome back Hank, Peggy and Bobby, and to see what they have to say about the world we live in and continue the conversations we began years ago." Erwich noted that a King of the Hill reboot met Hulu's needs at the moment, stating, "This show has all of the perfect ingredients to meet this moment in animation at Hulu, and we're so thankful to be having those conversations alongside this talented group."

The original King of the Hill ran for an impressive 13 seasons on Fox, beginning in January 1997 until it concluded its run in 2010. During its 13-year run, the adult-focused cartoon received six Emmy nominations for outstanding animation, of which it won once in 1999 for the episode "And They Call It Bobby Love." When Disney purchased Fox's 20th Century Fox Television studio, King of the Hill was among the assets received, including 24, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

About King of the Hill

The animated comedy takes place in backwater Texas and follows the life of Hank Hill, a straight-laced propane salesman who is ardent about his job and the clean taste of meat cooked without charcoal. He lives with his substitute-teacher wife Peggy, his flamboyant wannabe-comedian son Bobby and his deadbeat but kind-hearted niece, Luanne. Hank often finds himself caught up in chaotic scenarios brought on by his family or one of his three best friends, the simple-minded Bill Dauterive, the incomprehensible Jeff Boomhauer and conspiracy theorist Dale Gribble, all of whom he's known since middle school.

While details regarding the reboot are scant at the moment, King of the Hill will premiere on Hulu sometime in the future.
