It's not often that comics depict a character arc quite like Eddie Brock's. He was first introduced as a disgraced scum bag reporter and now he's a hero wielding the powers of a cosmic god. The King In Black saga has come to a close after its fifth issue with Eddie Brock and his faithful Venom symbiote taking the throne as the new King In Black. Now that Eddie and Venom control the entire symbiote hive, there will no doubt be massive ramifications for not just his corner of the Spider-Verse, but the entire Marvel Universe as well.

As soon as the god light took control of Eddie Brock/Venom and resurrected them, they went to work. As powerful as Knull made himself out to be throughout the first four issues, he was no match for the reborn Venom after he was turbocharged with the Enigma Force, but that's not the only improvement he took into the battle. Upon his arrival, Venom called upon not one, but two legendary weapons -- the Silver Surfer's magical board and Mjolnir. Eddie's struggles leading up to this battle made him worthy of the legendary Asgardian hammer, which speaks volumes about his character. He combined the two items into a giant battle ax glowing cosmic fire and proceeded to completely demolish the once undefeatable Knull.

All the damage Knull did early in the series was quickly negated once Venom picked up his new weapon. He smashed Knull uncontested before slicing through a few of his dragons and decapitating the last of Knull's celestials, all with relative ease. Eddie ended his blistering show of force by ripping Knull's symbiote off his body and flying him into the sun. The issue ends with Eddie using the last of his god light to remove Knull's seed from his son. Then he sailed into the air on giant black wings, acknowledging that he is now the King In Black, a far cry from his disgraced beginnings.

Eddie Brock has just completed one of the most diverse character arcs ever seen in comics. Eddie started as Peter Parker's nemesis at the Daily Bugle who then became Spider-Man's deadly rival, Venom. Then he slowly became an anti-hero who was trying to do some good in the world. Then he became a father, which proved to be the pivotal point where Eddie evolved into much more than just a member of Spider-Man's rogue gallery. Once he defeated Carnage and learned Knull was coming to Earth, Eddie met with the Avengers who were understandably wary about trusting him. But by the end of the crossover, Venom is worthy of wielding Mjolnir and the Enigma Force simultaneously, something that had never been done before. If the Avengers didn't have faith in Eddie Brock before the King In Black, there's little doubt that their feelings have now changed.

After killing Knull, Venom became the new King In Black by freeing the symbiote hive mind. Now that Eddie Brock and Venom have ascended to the level of a celestial god, what does that mean for the Marvel Universe? Venom is now one of the most powerful beings on the planet, rivaling omega-level heroes like Jean Grey and Thor.

Eddie Brock has stumbled into an entirely different type of situation. Venom has the potential to do a tremendous amount of good or evil as a symbiote god. It will be interesting to see if Venom and Eddie will stay on the noble path or revert back to their previous ways. In either case, for better or worse they have officially become one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe.
