In Marvel's King in Black event, Knull has arrived on Earth, and he's shown what a cosmic powerhouse he really is. He defeated the Earth's heroes in record time, he unleashed his Dark Celestials, he killed the Sentry and claimed the Void for himself, and he covered the entire planet with a massive symbiote. And that's just the beginning. What heroes are left plan to fight back, but their best bet, Eddie Brock, appears to be dead. Right now, it sure looks like there is very little hope to defeat Knull. Well, on Earth, anyway.
In Guardians of the Galaxy #10, a newly-powered Star-Lord returns to his teammate's side to show his new abilities as the Master of the Sun -- abilities that indicate he may be Knull's opposite, a cosmic god whose return was foretold in Web of Venom: Wraith #1.
In the leadup to the King in Black event, Marvel released Web of Venom: Wraith #1 in Sept. 2020. In the one-shot, Wraith continued his search through space for Knull, the creator of the Exolon that made him immortal. In his search, he came across a symbol: a circle surrounded by six dots, spread evenly by groups of two. The issue revealed that this symbol belonged to another cosmic god, one who was described as Knull's opposite. The villain is a god of the abyss and of the black, which makes his opposite a god of light.
Before heading back to Earth, Wraith was briefly washed over by a bright light with this symbol at its center. When he found Eddie Brock shortly after, Wraith warned him of the coming of this god of light.
Now, the King in Black event is in full swing, and we still don't know anything more about this mysterious god of light. But it turns out that it's possible he is already here. Knull's opposite could actually be the Guardians of the Galaxy's Star-Lord.
At the start of 2019's new Guardians of the Galaxy series, Star-Lord sacrificed himself, activating a bomb that took out the villainous new Olympian gods. The cosmic hero was believed dead all this time, but he was actually trapped in another reality where he spent years living another life. He eventually took the powers of the New Olympians for himself, before this life was revealed to be some sort of test from the Master of the Sun, who endowed Peter Quill with the powers of the real Star-Lord.
Quill returned to his own reality, and he was reunited with his friends in Guardians of the Galaxy #9. Only, he is now different: he has the abilities of the Master of the Sun, which he is able to focus directly through his Element Gun.
Powered by the light and power of the sun, Peter Quill uses his abilities to kill one of Knull's symbiote dragons in Guardians of the Galaxy #10. As we have seen in King in Black and its tie-ins, these dragons are nearly impossible to kill -- but Star-Lord felled one with a single shot. This makes him a real threat to Knull, and the frontrunner as the one who might be able to stop the god of the symbiotes.
Since Quill carries the power of the sun, it seems like he could be the god of light Wraith spoke of. After all, there might be a clue as to this revelation in the symbol of the Master of the Sun. In Guardians of the Galaxy #10, Quill's Element Gun and his hand bear the logo of the sun: a circle with 12 rays of sunlight around it. If we compare that to the symbol shown in Web of Venom: Wraith #1, we can spot some similarities. The god of light's symbol is also a circle, and it's surrounded by six dots. But if one were to add dots in the empty spaces around it, there would be a total of 12.
Therefore, it's possible that despite this difference, the two logos are one and the same. If that is the case, then Star-Lord might be the only one able to defeat Knull. But that confrontation may have to wait. Right now, Star-Lord is more concerned with dealing with the returning New Olympians. But once that confrontation is over, perhaps Quill will then travel to Earth, and use the power of the Master of the Sun to face his opposite.
