King in Black will see the God of the Symbiotes Knull descend upon Earth, with nearly every hero in the Marvel Universe assembling to battle his legion of symbiote dragons. However, the key to defeating the dark deity may lie with Eddie Brock's son Dylan and his strange ability over symbiotes.

"It comes down to one thing. What is more terrifying; god, or the thing that nature has evolved to defeat god? And we're going to see that play out," writer Donny Cates told CBR. "We've really gone out of our way in the book to explain some of the mythology of the symbiotes. We once thought that they spawned randomly and at will. Now we've shown that symbiotes spawn when they're in great peril. And what could be so big and bad out there that the symbiote hive had to create something as powerful as Dylan? And is he going to be enough?"

Cates also said that giving Eddie a son was meant to ground him in a similar way to his former rival Peter Parker. "Giving him something to come home to at night, and something to strive and change for was something that grounded him in a way that I really loved." He also said that Eddie and Dylan will butt heads over Dylan's abilities, as Eddie doesn't want his son to get involved in the apocalypse.

Dylan Brock was the offspring of Eddie Brock and his late wife Ann Weying. He was born when Eddie's symbiote briefly bonded with Ann who left him with Eddie's father Carl. During Absolute Carnage, Dylan exhibited the ability to control and communicate with symbiotes. This has led to a horrific side effect, as Knull has visited Dylan in his dreams and even compelled him to draw the same spiraling symbols that mark his symbiote army.

Written by Donny Cates and illustrated by Ryan Stegman, King in Black #1 goes on sale Dec. 2 from Marvel Comics.
