The legend of King Arthur is about to be reborn -- this time as a highly stylized (but still medieval) and epic action film from the mind of director Guy Ritchie. Just like he did with the two "Sherlock Holmes" films, the first trailer for "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" shows that Ritchie has taken another icon of English culture and given him a gritty and dynamic makeover
Charlie Hunnam ("Pacific Rim") stars in the title role, standing against the false king Vortigern (played by "Sherlock Holmes" alum Jude Law). The trailer runs through the mythic elements of the King Arthur legend, all infused with Ritchie's signature style.
Guy Ritchie’s take on Camelot and Excalibur traces the journey of Arthur from a child whose father is murdered and birthright is stolen by his uncle Vortigern (Jude Law) to his rise to the throne of Britain.
Acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie brings his dynamic style to the epic fantasy action adventure “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.” Starring Charlie Hunnam in the title role, the film is an iconoclastic take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur’s journey from the streets to the throne.
When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy…whether he likes it or not.
Opening May 12, the Warner Bros. film also stars Astrid Bergès-Frisbey as Mage, Djimon Hounsou as Bedivere, Aidan Gillen as Goosefat Bill and Eric Bana as Arthur’s father King Uther Pendragon.
