Despite airing for just one season between 2013 and 2014, Kill la Kill has become an extremely popular anime with a large fan following, due to its unique premise, fresh animation, and refusal to bow to traditional "magical girl" tropes. The main character, 17-year-old high school student Ryuko, is a fierce and unrelenting fighter, but she has a warm side; she's known for her navy blue uniform, the manifestation of a magical spirit called "Senketsu", that gives her superhuman abilities.

10 starbuxx

Prolific cosplayer starbuxx and photographer Vander the Generalist give us these creative interpretations of Ryuko, which do change a couple of details but still leave the character easy to recognize. For instance, the outfit in both is a kimono-like version of Senketsu that, oddly enough, actually works, thanks to some visionary stylistic choices by the designer. The props deserve props and the hair is spot-on; Ryuko to a T.

An incredibly immersive cosplay with no major problems, this unique take on Ryuko is sure to win over fans of the series.

9 ellsnyx

Reddit user ellsnyx brings us a cosplay where attention to detail is the star. The objective of mirroring Ryuko is realized with astounding quality throughout. The hair is incredibly anime-accurate; there's more going on than just one red streak on dark blue. The props are detailed with a shiny, modern gloss and clean aesthetic. Also of note is the killer rendering of Ryuko's outfit, which is notoriously difficult for cosplayers to pull off and yet seems to cause ellsnyx no inconvenience here.

One thing is for sure; when it comes down to surface-level impressiveness, this cosplay is a tough one to beat.

7 ShamanaChu

Cosplayer ShamanaChu and photographer Allen Stev take Ryuko to the streets in these raw interpretations of the character that use props and scenery efficiently while making sure attention isn't taken away from the centerpiece, which is the cosplay itself. Nothing's out of place here - the costume is a fairly accurate 3D interpretation of Ryuko's signature outfit, and the hair is bold and styled with irreproachable accuracy.

Suffice to say, ShamanaChu does a commendable job of compressing Ryuko's core attributes into one creative cosplay.

6 Dzikan

This cosplay goes above and beyond on numerous levels, as DeviantArt user Dzikan tries out two different versions of Ryuko without sacrificing either one's quality. Meanwhile, visuals are key; lighting, effects, and gloss help to enhance this enchanting cosplay, and everything looks smooth and detailed.

The hair is perfect in both iterations, and the costumes are cool and colorful with hints of both wildness and decadence. Perhaps most important of all, however, is the way that the viewer is ultimately left with the impression of having briefly been in a colorful alternate reality - a feat owed solely to the cosplayer's talent.

5 KawaiiQueen

Popular cosplayer KawaiiQueen gracefully handles this clear-cut yet visually expressive portrayal of one of anime's greatest protagonists, with photography by Gil Riego. The costume doesn't hold back and is more than able to stand on its own merits, and the blue-and-red aesthetic that most cosplays tend to pass by is exemplified here to startling effect - for instance, the lustrous, candy-apple red of Seki Tekko, Ryuko's glove, contrasts with the bright royal blue of her well-styled hair.

Solidly structured and doing its job with unparalleled accuracy, this remarkable cosplay gets everything right.

4 Paulina Guccione

Cosplayer Paulina Guccione and photographer Sandman-AC understand here that lighting is essential to a good cosplay, and the black, blue, and red color tones are accentuated accordingly. The costume is modern and flashy, the hair is bright and beautiful, and - most importantly - the expressive look brings Ryuko's signature vibe to the realm of reality.

Clearly realized and stunningly spirited to unmistakable effect, this cosplay deserves all of the praise heaped upon it and more.

1 fenixfatalist

These unbelievable cosplays are brought to you courtesy of DeviantArt user fenixfatalist and photographer Eva. We've brought up attention to detail plenty of times, and that's only because it's just such an important trait for a cosplay to have - it's also a trait that this particular cosplay knocks out of the park. In particular, Senketsu looks like he could have been lifted from the anime into real life. Both Ryuko's strength and her passion are captured by the photogenic cosplayer, and even the tiniest things are praiseworthy, like the Kill la Kill decal on Ryuko's motorcycle.

It's amazing what some of these cosplayers can do - especially considering many don't receive due recognition for their talents. If you found these cosplayers particularly talented, please take the time to check out their social media pages, linked to their names throughout the article.
