Many movies are able to connect with audiences on another level and translate into sublime cinematic experiences, and the highly stylized Kill Bill is one of them. There are lots of directors who strive to push themselves into more challenging territory so that they can evolve as filmmakers, but this sentiment is palpable with Quentin Tarantino’s fourth full-length cinematic offering. Kill Bill really marks Tarantino’s growing ability to tackle a considerably bigger project and turn himself into an expert craftsman of action sequences.

Quentin Tarantino’s subsequent movies have only gotten bigger, yet the director has frequently mentioned a return to the Kill Bill universe with a full-fledged sequel. Kill Bill: Vol. 3 may still just be a pipe dream, but Tarantino has provided several details of what the sequel could include.

10 It Will Take Place 20 Years After The Original Films

Movies Kill Bill Beatrix Carries BB Out

The first Kill Bill was released back in 2003, nearly two decades ago. Tarantino has grown as a director in many ways during the years since, but this passage of time is also a major factor in the scope of another Kill Bill feature.

Tarantino has spoken about how Kill Bill: Vol. 3 would be set 20 years after the original, which gives every character in the story significant time to grow and change. Initially, Tarantino’s plan was to set the sequel ten years after the original, but that timeline no longer makes sense considering how much everyone has since aged.

9 The Initial Plan Was To Release It In 2014

Tarantino is quite vocal with his plans, and he’ll readily chat to the public whenever he’s passionate about a possible future film. Initial rumblings over Kill Bill: Vol. 3 began in 2004 when Tarantino first candidly spoke about it. This gained more traction in 2006 and 2007 when Tarantino went so far as to say that Kill Bill: Vol. 3 would be his ninth film and hit theaters in 2014. It turned out instead that Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood became his ninth film and was released in 2019.

8 Maya Hawke, Uma Thurman's Daughter, Will Play B.B.

Movies Kill Bill Beatrix BB In Bed

One of the few absolutes at the end of Kill Bill: Vol. 2 is that both Beatrix “The Bride” Kiddo and her daughter, B.B., are both alive and together. Perla Haney-Jardine plays B.B. in Tarantino’s original movies, but he’s mentioned a very meta approach for B.B.’s casting in a sequel.

Tarantino is adamant about casting Maya Hawke, Uma Thurman’s real daughter, as B.B. since he has previously worked with her. Thurman herself has expressed reluctance to return as The Bride, but she seems to have changed her mind on the matter.

7 He’s Also Talked About A Kill Bill: Volume 4

Movies Kill Bill Vernita Green Knife Table Fight

Kill Bill was originally conceived as one epically long film rather than two separate movies. This duology approach appeals to Tarantino, and if he moves ahead with a Kill Bill: Vol. 3, then it would only be half of the story. Tarantino has detailed that Kill Bill: Vol. 3 would focus on the festering revenge of Elle Driver and Sofie Fatale, two of The Bride’s previous targets. However, this story would be concluded in Kill Bill: Vol. 4, which would focus more on the cycle of violence perpetuated between Vernita’s daughter, Nikki, and The Bride.

6 Sofie Fatale Gets Bill's Money And Raises Nikki For Revenge

Movies Kill Bill Sofie Fatale Driving

The Kill Bill movies emphasize that The Bride is a legendary assassin whose abilities are practically unparalleled. Her roaring rampage of revenge leads to dozens of deaths and she’s incredibly efficient when it comes to her targets. That being said, there are still a few survivors, one of whom is Sofie Fatale, who loses an arm but keeps her life. Tarantino speculates that Kill Bill: Vol. 3 would have a one-armed Sofie accumulate Bill’s extreme wealth and use it to raise Nikki into a killing weapon who can get revenge on The Bride for the both of them.

5 It Could Feature A Lot Of Anime Sequence Flashbacks

Movies Kill Bill O-ren Ishii Anime Flashback

Tarantino loves to pay homage to different genres of cinema and Kill Bill contains a number of film references. Kill Bill: Vol. 1 has a stunning anime sequence that details O-ren Ishii’s backstory. Tarantino was so impressed with this material that he at one point discussed two Kill Bill anime movies.

One would be an origin story on Bill and his mentors, with the other detailing The Bride’s growth as an assassin. Neither of these projects happened, but it’s likely that any future Kill Bill movie would find a way to include more anime moments.

4 Gogo's Twin Sister, Shiaki, Could Be A Major Antagonist

Movies Kill Bill Gogo Yubari Fight Bride On Ceiling

One of Kill Bill: Vol. 1’s most memorable characters is Gogo Yubari, O-ren Ishii’s twisted teenage bodyguard. Gogo meets her end, but Tarantino seems interested in returning to the character, albeit in an unconventional way. Tarantino speculates that Shiaki, a twin sister of Gogo, could be a major antagonist in a future Kill Bill. Tarantino initially wanted Kou Shibasaki to play Yuki Yubari, Gogo's sister, but scheduling conflicts intervened.

It’s unclear if Shibasaki would play Shiaki, or if the twin description is just a way for Tarantino to bring back Gogo’s actress Chiaki Kuriyama in a very grindhouse way.

3 Vivica A. Fox Wants Zendaya To Play Her Daughter, Nikki

One of the most obvious plot threads that Kill Bill: Vol. 3 would pick up on is that Nikki, the daughter of the deceased Vernita Green, is eager to get revenge on The Bride for killing her mother. The Bride even explicitly sets up this future showdown in the first movie. Ambrosia Kelley plays the precocious Nikki in Kill Bill: Vol. 1, but Vernita’s actress, Vivica A. Fox, has made an inspired casting suggestion for who should carry the torch. Fox has been vocal that Zendaya would make for a perfect adult Nikki Green.

2 He's Referred To These Movies As His "Dollars Trilogy"

Movies Kill Bill Bride Walks Through Desert

The Kill Bill movies are rampant with references to other movies, but there are recurring visual nods to Sergio Leone’s iconic “Dollars Trilogy.” Tarantino even has sequences that directly pay homage to spaghetti westerns.

There’s obviously a lot of appeal to Tarantino in the thematic prospects of a trilogy and he’s used Leone’s trilogy as a reference point for the direction of Kill Bill: Vol. 3. This plan obviously has not come to fruition, but Tarantino remains adamant that if he ever returns to one of his movies’ universes then it would be Kill Bill.

1 Elle Driver Will Now Have Zero Eyes And Want Revenge

Movies Kill Bill Elle Driver As Nurse

One of The Bride’s most determined rivals in the Kill Bill movies is Daryll Hannah’s Elle Driver. Elle’s history mirrors The Bride’s in many ways. She faces brutal injuries in Kill Bill: Vol. 2, but many overlook the fact that she’s never actually confirmed to be dead.

The Bride removes Elle’s remaining eye and leaves her defenseless with a poisonous cobra nearby. This seems like a death sentence, but Tarantino has implied that Elle is more resilient than that, and he imagines a completely blind Elle who is more determined for revenge against The Bride than ever before.
