Kiki's Delivery Service, created by Studio Ghibli, is a movie following a young witch named Kiki. She leaves home on her mother's broom to train herself to become a better witch. She finds a town by the sea and settles down, working as a delivery girl who goes above and beyond to make her customers happy.

Her work ethic leads to her making a lot of new friends, and she even makes a name for herself in a town that previously wasn't very welcoming to her at all. It is an inspiring story that shows Kiki's becoming more independent, but there are a few things in the film that don't make any sense.

10 Kiki's Only Skill Is Flying

It's a tradition for witches to leave home at 13 to train. However, Kiki's mother mentioned that Kiki wasn't very good at flying, which is necessary for every witch. Kiki later states that flying is her only skill, which is a little odd. Many people at 13 years old have something they're good at or at least a hobby. Strangely, her parents never taught her many life skills that would make it easier for her to be independent.

9 Jiji Can Climb Onto Grocery Shelves

When Kiki and her cat Jiji go shopping for groceries for the first time, they are not kicked out for some reason. This is particularly surprising since Jiji was climbing and walking on top of the shelves, stopping right next to a cup that could have easily been broken if it had been knocked over. Kiki, despite being on a tight budget, decides to purchase the cup as well as a bunch of pancake mix, despite her boss promising to feed her breakfast.

8 Jiji Didn't Try To Run From The Dog

Jiji sweats nervously while Jeff sniffs him

When a flock of crows attacks kiki, she accidentally loses a toy cat she is supposed to deliver. Because she is already late on making the delivery, she asks Jiji to pretend to be the toy cat, dropping him off at the destination before going back to look for the toy.

At the house, Jiji finds himself next to a dog, and although he looks terrified, he does not make any attempt to run. Not all dogs are kind to toys, so it was surprising that Jiji's self-preservation instincts didn't make him run for it.

7 Discerning Houses By Roofs

Rooftops In Kiki's town

When asking for information to make a delivery, the customer tells Kiki to look for a blue roof house. However, there were a lot of blue roofs in the area. Regardless, Kiki manages to find the exact house without even trying, pointing out a blue roof amongst many houses with blue roofs. Although Kiki can avoid traffic to make a speedy delivery, she would have a harder time finding a specific address from high up.

6 Kiki Walks Into Strangers' Houses

House With Blue Roof

For some reason, Kiki feels comfortable with entering strangers' houses. It's not really necessary for her to do that for her delivery job, yet whenever someone invites her in, she doesn't hesitate to step inside. Although this earned her a few friends, this is a pretty inefficient way to make timely deliveries or keep herself safe. It seems Kiki's parents didn't teach her quite a few life skills, including the concept of stranger danger.

5 Laughing At Tragedy

Airship crashes into clock tower

Kiki visits some customers who invited her over to give her a thank-you cake since she went above and beyond when helping them. While she's there, an airship accident is broadcasted on the television. While Kiki and one of the elderly women react with horror, the other elderly woman seems thoroughly entertained. After calling it a terrible accident, she cackles, and she complains about how it was just getting good the moment the image starts cutting out.

4 How Flying Works

There are a lot of unanswered questions about how flying works. The movie has revealed that each witch inherently has special powers that allow them to communicate with their cat and gives them the ability to fly on a broom. When Kiki was about to leave home, her mother told Kiki to take her broom instead, since it was more reliable. It's never explained what makes a broom more reliable, but it doesn't seem to matter what kind of broom she uses by the end of the movie.

3 The Loss Of Kiki's Witch Powers

When asked how she flies, Kiki explains that she doesn't really think about it. She does it. This made her artist friend, Ursula, treat the loss of Kiki's powers like a rut or like her artist's block.

By this logic, most witches probably went through the same thing that Kiki did. With so many generations of witches existing, it's surprising that her mother never mentioned something like this happening to her or to the other witches that came before her.

2 Tombo Doesn't Get Hurt

Kiki saving Tombo

During the scene in which Kiki swoops in on her broom and saves Tombo from falling, the film uses superhero logic. Kiki catches him in midair, and the force doesn't seem to injure him at all when realistically, it probably would have. It's also impressive that Tombo held onto the rope with one hand for so long when he reached the other hand out to Kiki, especially when she was lurching around in many different directions on her broom.

1 Kiki Keeps The Broom She Stole

To save Tombo, Kiki had to take a broom from a stranger. Although she didn't have permission to take it, it seems that she chooses to keep the broom, riding on it next to her friends during the end credits. Kiki repeatedly mentions making a new broom by herself since she couldn't bring the one that she had at home, but it seems that she never gets around to doing so. It's odd for someone so concerned about appearances that she chose to keep the broom with a rectangular brush.
