"It's thrilling to see that the indomitable #KickstarterReads creators have done it again: launched and succeeded with more projects than ever before, for the sixth year running," said Oriana Leckert, Kickstarter's director of publishing and comics outreach. "My favorite metric is the success rate, where comics remains the highest category on the entire platform at a truly incredible 78% for 2022. That's incredible but by no means unbelievable, given the fantastic variety of projects brought to life here! We've got everything from Brian Pulido's massively adored Lady Death series, to Beehive Books' gorgeous 600-page accordion-folded Ronald Wimberley epic Gratuitous Ninja, to Eisner-winner James Tynion IV working with Elsa Charretier and PK Colinet to produce a live-action horror film and accompanying comic. There's truly something here to thrill every kind of reader and fan."

Kickstarter remains an important platform for new artists as well as established creators to launch projects outside the constraints concerning content and ownership at traditional publishing houses. Thanos creator Jim Starlin, for example, recently launched a Dreadstar vs. The Inevitable project, a sequel to 2020's Dreadstar Returns, while Terry Moore is launching a Terry Moore After Dark... art book project in Feb. 2023.
