Sleepwalk Studios has released a teaser trailer for Kick-Ass: The Reboot, an upcoming fan film based on the comic book series of the same name by Mark Millar.

George Paul Knapp stars as Dave Lizewski/Kick-Ass in the teaser, which shows the title character confronting a group of thugs in an alley and referencing classic DC Comics superheroes like Superman and Batman. The teaser was released along with an update from the creatives behind the upcoming short film, who both announced that Kick-Ass: The Reboot will be uploaded to the Sleepwalk Studios YouTube account in a few weeks for American Thanksgiving (Nov. 24).

Created by writer Mark Millar and artist John Romita, Jr., Dave Lizewski/Kick-Ass first appeared in 2008's Kick-Ass: The Dave Lizewski Years #1 as a high school student and comic book fan whose dreams inspire him to become a real-life superhero. The comic book series also centered on Mindy McCready, a young but effective vigilante named Hit-Girl who was initially trained by her father. Kick-Ass: The Dave Lizewski Years concluded after 29 issues in February 2014. A feature film directed by Matthew Vaughn was released in 2010, starring Aaron Johnson-Taylor and Chloë Grace Moretz as Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl, respectively. A sequel to the 2010 film, titled Kick-Ass 2, was released in 2013.

Will Kick-Ass 3 Happen?

Despite Kick-Ass 2's disappointing box office performance, a third film in the franchise was reported to be in the works in August 2013 but has since stalled. However, Miller recently gave an update on the threequel's development status in November 2021, revealing that he is still hoping to assemble the original cast for one final film. "We do have one last [Kick-Ass] story to tell, which is the big finale storyline," he said at the time. "I kind of like the idea of that as well, because practically we can come back a little later to all the characters in different places, so there's a potential story there at some point. But I pray that nobody reads this and mistakes that for us saying Kick-Ass 3 is in the works, because there's 100 percent no plans to do it at the moment."

Vaughn has also announced his intentions to reboot the franchise, telling fans in 2018, "Look what Mark Millar is doing with the comic for clues." In the meantime, Vaughn is preparing to direct the fourth installment in 20th Century Studios' Kingsman franchise, which is also based on one of Millar's comic book properties. The film will serve as a sequel to 2017's Kingsman: The Golden Circle with the focus once again on the relationship between spies Harry Hart (Colin Firth) and Eggsy (Taron Egerton).

Kick-Ass is currently available to stream on Netflix.
