Venom: Let There Be Carnage has teamed up with KFC to market the movie alongside chicken sandwiches in Korea.
The promotional material seen on social media showed Venom and Carnage staring each other down across a selection of new combo platters. Part of the promotion granted an opportunity to earn a free movie ticket for customers who met the promotion's challenges.
The promotion ran between Aug. 17 and Sept. 13, with 100 tickets available to give away. Fifty of the tickets will be granted to the customers with the most purchases of the exclusive combo platters during the month, while 30 tickets will go to those who made the most KFC purchases overall and the last 20 going to customers who bought the combo platter and posted a photo online to social media. The winners are set to be announced on Friday, Sept. 24.
The partnership was between a fast food company and a movie focused on a usually famished symbiote protagonist. Venom is a Marvel character with an appetite like no other. In a recent still for the movie, Eddie Brock, host to the Venom symbiote, can be seen protecting a live chicken from being consumed by his other.
While the menu options did not appear to include Venom's usual favorites, "eyes, liver, lungs, pancreas," chocolate syrup and tater tots, customers could select other KFC meals along with the combo platter. One such meal included in the social media post was KFC's "Double Down," which is no longer sold in America. The selection is still available in South Korea though, featuring two pieces of fried chicken, bacon, a hash brown and cheese to form a sandwich out of the ingredients.
The promotion also included the film's antagonist, Carnage, whose usual bloodlust gives him an appetite with a very different food palette. In the promotional material, it seemed fans had the chance to take a side by selecting a combo platter associated with one of the two symbiotes. This promotion allowed fans to choose sides, though fast food companies have directly weighed in on their comic book preferences in the past.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom and Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady/Carnage. Michelle Williams will reprise her role as Anne Weying from 2018's Venom, with Naomie Harris and Stephen Graham joining the film as Shriek and Patrick Mulligan, respectively. The latest film in Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters (SPUMC) will release exclusively in theaters on Oct. 1, 2021.
