Following his formal charge of felony sexual assault, actor Kevin Spacey has posted a bizarre video in which he responds as his House of Cards character Frank Underwood.

Affecting Underwood's Southern drawl, Spacey opens with, "I know what you want. Oh sure, they may have tried to separate us, but what we have is too strong, too powerful. After all, we shared everything, you and I. I told you my deepest, darkest secrets. I showed you exactly what people are capable of. I shocked you with my honestly, but mostly I challenged you and made you think. And you trusted me, even though you knew you shouldn't. So we're not done, no matter what anyone says. And besides, I know what you want. You want me back."

The video, titled "Let Me Be Frank," is a full three minutes in length. In it, he rails against "poppycock" headlines and "impeachment without a trial." "Of course, some believed everything and have been just waiting with baited breath to hear me confess it all," he says. "They're just dying to have me declare that everything said is true and that I got what I deserved. Only you and I both know it's never that simple, not in politics and not in life."

He closed the video with a reference to Frank Underwood's death, as his character was killed off between seasons in response to his sexual assault allegations. "My confidence grows each day that soon enough, you will know the full truth. Wait a minute, now that I think of it, you never actually saw me die, did you? Conclusions can be so deceiving," he concludes.

The allegations for which Spacey was arraigned were brought against him by the son of Heather Unruh, a former Boston WCVB-TV news anchor. The alleged assault took place at a Nantucket bar in July 2016. According to Unruh, Spacey bought alcohol for her underage son until he was drunk, then assaulted him. Her son fled the bar when Spacey used the restroom. He reported the incident to the police in fall 2017, though Unruh discussed the incident with Nantucket’s sheriff shortly after the alleged incident.

Spacey, best known for his roles in films like The Usual Suspects and American Beauty, was removed from his starring role in House of Cards over sexual assault allegations made by actor Anthony Rapp and Richard Dreyfuss' son Harry, among others.
