In Kevin Smith's cult classic film, Mallrats, comic book legend Stan Lee gives some much-needed advice to Jason Lee's Brodie Bruce. Now, Smith has not only revealed that Stan Lee will play a part in the upcoming Mallrats sequel, Twilight of the Mallrats, but the writer/director came up with an interesting way of involving the comic creator, despite his recent passing.

During an interview with Comicbook.com, Smith said, "So there's a, as a writer, like you know my daughter hates how into myself and my writing I am but sometimes as a writer I'm like 'oh that was clever, that's clever' and stuff like where you want to share it with people but you're like 'I'll wait until I can give it to everybody at once' but the Stan Lee scene in Twilight of the Mallrats is one of those moments that I consider like 'oh that's clever' and even if I wasn't me and I just liked my movies I would be like 'that's a good, what a good, what a way to do it, man.'"

Mallrats originally released in 1995 and was the second film to be included in Smith's Viewaskewniverse, following 1994's Clerks. In the film, two slackers make a trip to their local mall, where they run into Smith's Silent Bob and Jason Mewes' Jay.

Smith announced that he was working on the script for Twilight of the Mallrats back in January. He later revealed that the film would involve the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
