Kevin Smith suffered the heart attack that almost killed him 17 months ago, and now, the director is preparing for the release of his next film, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. With his new film out in October, Smith has opened up again about his near-death experience.
While speaking with Entertainment Weekly about his heart attack from February 2018, Smith said that he had one regret if he had died at that moment.
“When I had the heart attack and I was on the table they were like, ‘You might die,'” Smith said. “I was actually okay with that. I was like, I’ve had a great life. The only regret I had was, Man, I wish I had gotten to make Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, because now the last movie I ever made was Yoga Hosers. F—!"
However, he added that he would be fine with the upcoming entry in the View Askewniverse franchise being his final film.
"But I did get to make Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, and now I feel like, well, if this was it, if I never got to make another movie — or if the heart came back and was like, ‘Aha!’ and f—ing finally killed me — I’d be okay with this being the last movie.”
Jay and Silent Bob Reboot gives Kevin Smith a chance to return to the characters that made him famous and allows him to poke fun at the movie industry itself once again. Smith is also reprising his role as Silent Bob, which he originated in his 1994 directorial debut, Clerks.
Written and directed by Kevin Smith, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot stars Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, Melissa Benoist Shannon Elizabeth, Jason Lee, Donnell Rawlings, Joey Lauren Adams and numerous other stars. The film is set to be released on Oct. 15, 2019.
