One of Daredevil's most critically-acclaimed and influential stories may get a sequel in the future. Writer Kevin Smith was recently a guest on Joe Quesada's Joe Q's Mornin' Warm Up in a two-part episode. Talk turned to the 1998-1999 Daredevil storyline "Guardian Devil," which Smith wrote and Quesada illustrated.

Quesada teased the interview on Twitter. In it, Smith said he would be up for a sequel if "the right guy" joined him, referring to Quesada. "Part of me is just like, 'Never touch the character again,' A miracle happened, and your name is attached to that miracle, so don't ruin the miracle by going 'Let me tell you another Daredevil story!' 'Oh that one's terrible!'" Smith laughed. He mentioned his respect for Frank Miller, and that he'd "go back to Hell's Kitchen in a heartbeat" if Quesada was attached.

Similarly, Quesada said that he has batted around a couple of ideas with Smith. "It's got to be the right moment, the right story, and we have to have the time to do it." Smith then suggested they do a one-shot to help boost comic sales in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The "Guardian Devil" storyline saw Matt Murdock dealing with a crisis of faith, as his longtime partner Foggy Nelson was accused of murder, his former lover Karen Page contracted AIDS and he found himself in possession of a baby who might have been the second coming of Christ or the Antichrist itself. The entire scenario was eventually revealed to be constructed by a dying Mysterio. Elements of the storyline influenced the 2003 film adaptation, starring Ben Affleck, as well as the Netflix series.
