As principal photography nears completion for Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, filmmaker Kevin Smith revealed exactly what he intends the sequel to be while providing another behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming sequel.

In a post on his Facebook page, Smith shared a before-and-after set of photos with himself, Jason Mewes, Jake Richardson and Nick Fehlinger from the set of the sequel as well as the 2001 film Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. The two younger actors had appeared in the earlier film as teenagers buying marijuana from Jay and Silent Bob outside of the Quick Stop convenience store at the beginning of the film.

In addition to providing the behind-the-scenes photos, Smith explained that Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is not only intended to be a direct sequel to the 2001 film but also the entire shared cinematic universe started by Smith with 1994's Clerks.

With that in mind, Smith teased that the new film would provide updates on the many characters from the previous six films to show fans how they ended up over the past 20 years. Last week, Smith confirmed Shannon Elizabeth would return to reprise her role as Jay's love interest Justice and "kick our primary plot into gear." With filming expected to wrap sometime next week, more familiar faces may surface over the remainder of production.

Written and directed by Kevin Smith, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot stars Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, Shannon Elizabeth, Jason Lee, Donnell Rawlings and more. The film is expected to hit theaters later this year.
