Over the past year, fan favorite feature film director Kevin Smith has taken his lifelong love of comics to a whole new level. Smith, who wrote the screenplay for the lost '90s Tim Burton/Nicolas Cage Superman film, has taken to directing episodes of the CW's DC superhero shows. He's now stepped behind the camera for episodes of "The Flash" and "Supergirl," the latter of which's title -- "Supergirl Lives" -- is an homage to his abandoned Super-screnplay.

To commemorate his time working on "Supergirl" Smith commissioned a new hockey jersey emblazoned with the hero's iconic "S" logo. Smith shared the finished, which was designed by Smith and drawn by Jeff Quigley, on Facebook:

The commemorative items just keep on coming, too. Smith gave a gift to the "Supergirl" crew after production wrapped on his episode. Smith and Quigley worked up a t-shirt featuring a riff on George Perez's iconic “Crisis on Infinite Earths” #7 cover. But instead of Superman holding Supergirl's body, it's Kevin Smith's alter ego Silent Bob.

Smith also received a hockey jersey as a gift to celebrate another one of his recent CW/DC projects. A few weeks ago, Smith showed off the jersey he got after taking on a recent episode of "The Flash." That jersey wasn't designed by Smith; no, it came as a gift from "Flash" and "Supergirl" storyboard artist Jeremy Simser and features one of his frames -- an action shot of the Flash -- right there on the front.

We're still waiting for further information about the Smith-directed "Supergirl Lives" episode of the series. We know that it's set to air on January 23, 2017, after the show returns from winter hiatus. Smith has also said that working with the actors was really his favorite part of the experience.

“I love all the flying and punching of villains on #Supergirl… but I tune in for portrayals of sibling revelry so sincere and supportive that it really makes me feel like I missed out on something in life by not being a girl with a sister,” wrote Smith in the caption of a photograph of himself with “Supergirl” stars Melissa Benoist and Chyler Leigh. “As a huge fan of the show, seeing that dynamic on display both on & off camera yesterday was like drinking insanely good hot cocoa that warms your insides and fills you with joy.”

Starring Melissa Benoist as the Girl of Steel, "Supergirl" airs Mondays at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW. The series also stars David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers and Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott and features appearances by Calista Flockhart's Cat Grant as well as Tyler Hoechlin's Superman.
