Kevin Feige Reveals Why Natalie Portman's Jane Foster Won't Appear in "Thor: Ragnarok"

When Thor sets out on his final solo journey in "Thor: Ragnarok," his girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) won't be joining him. According to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, there are "many reasons" for this, but none so inescapable as the fact that the film largely takes place in outer space.

"Many of [the reasons] are in the film so you will see that," he revealed to Empire. "There are only a couple of scenes on Earth in this movie; 80 to 90% takes place in the cosmos." As /Film points out, this is likely the reason why Stellan Skarsgard's Erik Selvig also won't appear in the film.

Though Portman and Skarsgard won't reprise their roles, Chris Hemsworth will be joined by Mark Ruffalo and Tom Hiddleston as well as newcomers Cate Blanchett and Tessa Thompson, who has been tapped to play Thor's new love interest.

Directed by Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth, "Thor: Ragnarok" is scheduled to open on November 3, 2017.
