Kermit the Frog & Miss Piggy Announce Breakup Prior to 'The Muppet's' Release

Kermit the Frog took to Twitter to announce his split with Miss Piggy, his longtime partner, and reassured fans that they will continue to work together on ABC's "The Muppets."

"After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, we have made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship," he wrote. "We will continue to work together on teleivision... and in all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe."

The pair is currently filming "The Muppets," which is official for ABC’s fall schedule, landing at 8 p.m. on Tuesdays. Described as a “more adult” version of the classic comedy-variety series, "The Muppets" will utilize a documentary-style approach, moving beyond the traditional theater setting to explore the personal lives of the beloved characters.

"The Muppets" premieres September 22, 2015 on ABC. You can read Kermit's full statement below.
