Kenneth Branagh, who's already attached to direct Paramount Pictures' untitled Jack Ryan reboot, is also in negotiations to play the movie's villain opposite Chris Pine, Variety reports.
The thriller seeks to reinvigorate the movie franchise based on Tom Clancy's novels starring the CIA analyst turned national security adviser turned U.S. president last seen on the big screen in 2002's The Sum of All Fears (where he was played by Ben Affleck).
In the reboot, Ryan is an ex-Marine who, while working as a financial analyst in Moscow, discovers a plot by his employer to bankroll a terrorist attack designed to destroy the U.S. economy. Branagh would play Viktor Stazov, a financial wizard who, with the help of the local government, masterminds the plot to devalue American currency.
Branagh, who helmed Marvel's Thor, appeared most recently in My Week with Marilyn.
