Paramount+ just said "I'm listening" to fans of Frasier who have been waiting years for its reboot, as evidenced by the streamer's latest move.

The streaming service has, according to Deadline, taken the crucial step of giving a full series order to a reboot project, which will see star Kelsey Grammer once again reprise his starring role. The Frasier reboot in question has been mooted since 2018 and gained traction in 2021 when Paramount+ announced the development of the project, sans a series commitment. Now fully onboard with the endeavor, the streamer will reportedly move forward with a 10-episode order, as the trade's source seems to indicate.

Frasier's Frequent Moves

While specifics about the newly ordered Frasier reboot series are not yet available, it has been confirmed as a multi-camera comedy. In a manner akin to the preceding 11-season 1993-2004 NBC series, star Grammer will also serve as an executive producer. Additionally, previous reports have indicated that the setting will take Frasier away from the familiarity of Seattle to a new city joined by new characters. This seemed to be a given since the show's 2004 finale saw Frasier boldly turn down a substantial job offer to host a television show in San Francisco to follow his heart and join girlfriend Charlotte (Laura Linney) in Chicago. Yet, that was nearly two decades ago and Frasier's situation in the reboot could take a different form. After all, the original Frasier required an adjustment by fans who were used to seeing him dispense bartop advice from the Boston setting of Cheers' titular establishment, as he had done for nine years.

On another note, it appears that the series may just see Frasier -- wherever he ends up -- go without his brother and companion in chaos, Niles, since Frasier co-star David Hyde Pierce seemed unsure about a return when asked in a recent interview. "Yeah. That whole time of my life, the writing on those shows, the actors I got to work with — all of that is deeply important to me. And I would never disrespect that in such a way as to say just offhandedly, 'Oh, no, thanks. I’m not going to do that again.' It’s too valuable to me," Pierce said. "But by the same token, because it’s so valuable to me, I also wouldn’t do it just to do it."

Nevertheless, just like the original iteration, the Frasier reboot could see the occasional guest appearance from members of the preceding show's alumni. Grammer and Pierce were joined in the main cast by the late John Mahoney as the Crane siblings' father, Martin Crane, Jane Leeves as his live-in healthcare worker, Daphne Moon, and Peri Gilpin as Frasier's radio show producer, Roz Doyle. That show stands as one of the most celebrated and decorated scripted television comedies of all time, having achieved a record-setting 37 Emmy wins, five of which were consecutively won for Outstanding Comedy Series.

The Paramount+ Frasier reboot series has no production date or release window at the moment.
