Comic book writer Kelly Thomson recently launched her own Substack imprint, 1979 Semi-Finalist, with two new creator-owned titles: Black Cloak and The Cull. Despite this new venture, however, Thompson assures that her work at Marvel Comics will continue undeterred.

In an exclusive interview with CBR, Thompson was asked if she would continue to pen her current Marvel titles while also working on her creator-owned comics for 1979 Semi-Finalist. "Exactly," Thompson responded. "I'm still writing Captain Marvel and Black Widow and more It's Jeff. I'm still on the Amazing Spider-Man team and I'm even in the early stages of developing something else over there for 2022 that I'm really excited about!"

Thompson is the current writer on both Captain Marvel and Black Widow, having taken the reins on the Marvel titles when they were relaunched in January 2019 and September 2020, respectively. Earlier this month, Thompson -- alongside the artistic duo of Gurihiru -- also launched the digital-only title It's Jeff, which is published under Marvel's Infinity Comics banner. It's Jeff stars the character of Jeff the Land Shark, whom Thompson and artist Daniele Di Nicuolo previously introduced within the pages of West Coast Avengers.

In addition to West Coast Avengers, Thompson's previous Marvel work includes titles like Hawkeye, Jessica Jones: Blind Spot and Jessica Jones: Purple Daughter. As far as her current projects are concerned, Captain Marvel and Black Widow are gearing up for issues #33 and #12, respectively. Captain Marvel #33 is illustrated by Sergio Dávila and is scheduled for release on Oct. 6. Black Widow #12, meanwhile, is illustrated by Elena Casagrande and goes on sale Oct. 27.
