Keanu Reeves' Replicas Declared First Box Office Bomb of 2019

Only 14 days into 2019, the box office already has its first bomb in Keanu Reeves' science-fiction thriller Replicas.

According to Exhibitor Relations Inc, Replica’s box office bombing was worth repeating. The film -- which stars Keanu Reeves, Alice Eve and Thomas Middleditch -- finds scientist Will Foster defying scientific and moral ethics to resurrect his family as clones after they die in a car accident. Although the process seems to be a success, Reeves’ character clashes with his employers at Biodyne corporation, who see his family as company property instead of people.

Replicas opened to negative reviews and $2.5 million in 2,329 theaters, meaning it made only $1,073 per theater. At the time of writing, it has made $5.9 million against a budget of $30 million dollars.

Aside from Replicas, Reeves is set to appear in some highly anticipated movies this year. He will reprise his role as the dangerous, formerly-retired hitman John Wick in Jon Wick 3: Parabellum, which is scheduled for May 17. He will also appear in the Pixar sequel Toy Story 4 in an as-yet unannounced role.

Directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff and written by Chad St. John, Replicas is a production of Entertainment Studios and stars Keanu Reeves, Alice Even, Thomas Middleditch, Emily Alyn Lind, Emjay Anthony, Nyasha Hatendi and John Ortiz. It is in theaters now.
