John Wick 4's leading star has arrived on set.
Newly leaked photos show Keanu Reeves' arrival to John Wick 4's set, smiling in a fluffy hat. Reeves was last seen in Berlin, reprising his role as Neo for The Matrix 4, and is now reportedly in Germany to begin filming. While Reeves shaved his head to reprise his role as Neo, his John Wick signature slicked-back hair and beard seem to be growing back with a vengeance in the set photos.
John Wick alum Ian McShane revealed in January 2021 that John Wick 4 will start filming sometime in 2021. However, McShane cast some doubt on whether Lionsgate will film John Wick 4 and John Wick 5 back-to-back as originally planned. McShane shared, "I know they announced they were gonna do [John Wick 4] and [John Wick 5] together, but who knows." He added, "The studios announce all sorts of things. No doubt, at some point this year, we're gonna do John Wick 4."
In May 2020, director Chad Stahelski opened up about the pressures to top the latest film in the John Wick franchise, John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum. Stahelski shared, "I guess the third one just felt like I needed a place to go after number two, and I had these ideas." He added, "It kind of became that wacky action movie. There’s been a couple days where I’ve decided to do number four and I’ve woken up in a cold sweat going, ‘Horses! How do I beat horses?!’ Like, I have no fuckin’ idea, to tell you the truth... I think I have a lot of really cool ideas for the next one that I think are different and shocking and fun and unique."
In 2014, The John Wick franchise launched -- focusing its tale on a retired hitman who returns to the dangerous lifestyle after a local gang breaks into his house and killed his dog, given to him by his recently deceased wife. John Wick spawned two additional films -- John Wick: Chapter 2 in 2017 and John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum in 2019.
Collectively, the three films have grossed over $587 million worldwide.
Aside from John Wick 4 and John Wick 5, additional franchise projects are currently in the works. In 2017, a spinoff film called Ballerina was announced by Lionsgate. In 2018, it was revealed that a spinoff television series called The Continental was in development for Starz.
Directed by Chad Stahelski, John Wick: Chapter 4 stars Keanu Reeves. The film arrives in theaters May 27, 2022.
