Katherine Waterson has landed the lead female role in the "Harry Potter" spinoff "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," Variety reports.

Waterson, known for her role in "Inherent Vice," will play an American based witch named Tina, who encounters magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) during his research in New York. Two additional roles have yet to be cast: Queenie, Tina’s younger sister, and Jacob, a rival of Scamander’s.

Written by J.K. Rowling and directed by "Harry Potter" alum David Yates, the film follows the adventures of famous magizoologist Newt Scamander in New York City, several decades before the events of "Harry Potter." Scamander’s pioneering work in magizoology becomes a fundamental part of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Planned as a trilogy, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is scheduled to premiere Nov. 18, 2016.
