Katherine Heigl is no longer Angela Lansbury's mother. That statement is only slightly less weird than the fact that just one day ago, the words "Katherine Heigl is Angela Lansbury's mother" actually made some degree of sense.

Weeks ago, the Grey's Anatomy actress signed on to star in Adaline opposite the iconic Murder She Wrote actress as a woman who should have been killed in a car accident, but was brought roaring back to life courtesy of a well-placed lightning bolt. As an unintended side effect, the lightning strike rendered Heigl's character with immortality, forever freezing her in a youthful state. The majority of Adaline would follow the eternally young Heigl as she's forced to deal with the death of her aging daughter, played by -- that's right -- Angela Lansbury.

But perhaps the premise is too bizarre to be true, as Deadline reports that Heigl is no longer involved with the project. The actress reportedly removed herself from Adaline so that she can spend more time with her recently adopted daughter before returning to work.

"She has made two movies with us and we certainly support her decision," said Gary Lucchesi of Lakeshore Entertainment. "We were scheduled to shoot mid-March and we hope to achieve that. We are great fans of hers and if this is what she has to do, we respect that."

Even with Heigl out, Lakeshore is still looking to proceed with Adaline. No word on whether or not Lansbury is bailing as well. In the meantime, with Heigl gone, who would you cast as the erstwhile Jessica Fletcher's mother? I'm voting Miley Cyrus -- then again, I'm a big fan of the apocalypse, and I recognize that I might be alone there.
