Among the many shocking moments in Cobra Kai's Season 3 trailer were the return of more franchise alumni, such as The Karate Kid Part II characters Kumiko and Chozen Toguchi. In the case of the former, actress Tamlyn Tomita teased how this will contribute to a highly anticipated, if not complicated, reunion with Daniel LaRusso after more than thirty years.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tomita discussed her return to the franchise and how the Cobra Kai reunion will expand upon her and Daniel's characters. "I think it'll answer a lot of questions, and fans will be happy as to where [the characters] find themselves and the kind of discussions they have," she explained. "I think fans will be pleased. I just hope with all the hope in my heart that we all did a good job."

On getting the chance to work with actor Ralph Macchio again, Tomita compared the experience to "slipping on a favorite pair of socks, or a beloved pair of shoes that still fit, that still are comfortable, and they still look good... That's the important part. It was so easy, and we were just laughing, like, 'Was it really 35 years ago? Has it been that long?' Because it just feels like yesterday."

In Karate Kid Part II, Daniel and Mr. Miyagi met Tomita's Kumiko -- an aspiring dancer -- during their trip to Okinawa Island so Miyagi could pay respects to his father. She is also the niece of Mr. Miyagi's former love interest Yukie, whom he initially wanted to marry despite being promised to his friend Sato Toguchi, with Sato challenging Miyagi to a fight to the death to settle their dispute. Miyagi, hoping to avoid bloodshed, left Japan at the expense of being seen as dishonorable. Part II saw Miyagi try to mend old wounds with Sato, still embittered about what happened decades ago, while Daniel's attraction for Kumiko put him in a deadly rivalry with Sato's nephew Chozen, who also desired her affection. Like Tomita, actor Yuji Okumoto will also reprise his role as an older Chozen in Season 3.
