Official Press Release

As the excitement and buzz for Kapow! continues to build, it is announced that not one, but two, Guinness World Recordsâ„¢ will be attempted at the event. Taking place at the Business Design Centre in Islington over the weekend of 9th & 10th April this is one event that will leave all attendees counting down the days to Kapow! 2012. Tickets for Kapow are only available in advance, and can't be purchased on the door www.kapowcomiccon.com

Mark Millar and Leinil Yu have kindly given Kapow! permission to use the Superior character to create a standalone 20-page issue comic-book. To secure the record for 'Fastest Production of a Comic-book', the story concept must be decided upon, the script and dialogue written, all panels illustrated and lettering completed between 11am-6.30pm on Sat 9th April. "This is normally at least four weeks work and will be done in the space of a single day" explained Millar, who has written all of Marvel's major titles in New York and created the hit movies Kick-Ass and Wanted.

Attending creators including Dave Gibbons, John Romita Jr., Frank Quitely, Andy Diggle, Jock, Paul Cornell and many more are taking time out of their weekend schedules to be part of this record-breaking event to secure the record for 'Most Contributors to a Comic-Book'.

A Guinness World Records adjudicator will be on-site to confirm all guidelines are being followed and determine if the record has been broken.Craig Glenday, Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief: "The Brits have made - and continue to make - a major impact on the history of comics, so it's a pleasure to welcome a major con such as Kapow to London. We're also looking forward to being part of the event and seeing some world records set or broken over the weekend. It's going to be an amazing two days!"

KAPOW! and IGN UK are working together to create the 'IGN Arena', where attendees will be able to try out unreleased games, watch live celebrity interviews by the IGN team and take part in exclusive competitions. The Guinness World Record attempts will be in progress within the IGN Arena, and attendees can watch some of the greatest creators in the comic-book world at work.

The comic-book will be printed and distributed through Marvel's Icon imprint, with all royalties being donated to Yorkhill Children's Foundation. Shona Cardle, Chief Executive of Yorkhill Children's Foundation says, "We are thrilled to be benefiting from this record-breaking attempt. Children in hospital love to read comic books to while away the hours on the wards and we're sure that this new comic will be a hit with the young patients at Yorkhill Hospital". Yorkhill Children's Foundation provides enhanced medical equipment and resources which benefit sick children and babies who are treated at Yorkhill Hospital and within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. These can include innovative medical equipment, improvements in child and family facilities and paediatric research and training.

The full timetable of panels and events running at Kapow! will be published at the end of March.
