Rapper/presidential hopeful Kanye West says he's not a fan of the Star Wars sequel trilogy and much prefers George Lucas' prequels."They said that George Lucas' prequels are worse than the corporate-made Disney Star Wars," West said on The Joe Rogan Experience. "Like, Revenge of the Sith? We saw how Darth Vader was made! Like, I watched that, like, 10 times during COVID. Like, 'Don't jump Anakin, I've got the high ground!'"RELATED: Star Wars Theory: The Original Trilogy Is Rebel Propaganda

"I'm saying even the prequels are better than anything that..." he continued. "And I'm sorry Disney/Star Wars design team... No man, this is George. This is his baby. That thing was set in his heart to show us as children the Hero's Journey..."

Ironically, the prequel trilogy was long considered the black sheep of the Star Wars franchise, with many deeming the films unnecessary and criticizing the acting and excessive use of green screen technology. However, that era found new life thanks to the CG-animated Clone Wars series.

As for the sequels, while The Force Awakens was largely met with praise, the latter two films -- The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker -- each drove wedges in the collective Star Wars fan base. In the case of The Last Jedi, many longtime fans felt the film went too far in terms of subverting expectations, and the handling of Luke Skywalker remains perhaps the largest point of contention. With The Rise of Skywalker, there are those who felt the film was disjointed, that the return of Emperor Palpatine was shoehorned in and that it did a poor job wrapping up the nine-chapter Skywalker Saga. As a whole, though, most sequel detractors seem to agree that it's the overall lack of a unified vision that hurt the trilogy, given that the original plan was to give three separate directors the opportunity to tell their own stories with each of the three films. Of course, when Colin Trevorrow departed Episode IX over creative differences, Lucasfilm brought The Force Awakens' J.J. Abrams back to close out the trilogy.

Regardless of their reception from fans and critics, the sequel trilogy films performed exceptionally well for Lucasfilm. The Force Awakens grossed $2.07 billion worldwide, and its $936.66 million haul stateside made it the highest-grossing domestic film of all-time. The Last Jedi, meanwhile, earned $1.33 billion worldwide, and The Rise of Skywalker scored $1.07 billion.
