UPDATE: No New Justice Society Animated Film in Early Development

A new animated Justice Society of America film is not currently in development. This was a misinterpretation of information delivered during a live panel at San Diego Comic-Con. CBR apologizes for the misunderstanding. The original story appears in full below.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced that a new DC animated film centered on the Justice Society of America was in the works at San Diego Comic-Con 2022.

After premiering Green Lantern: Beware My Power, the latest DC Universe Animated Original Movie, for attending fans at the convention, film publicist Gary Miereanu spoke on what they can expect in the future. CBR was present for the SDCC panel where Miereanu mentioned that another Justice Society of America animated film was in development, but did not elaborate any further. Justice Society: World War II was DC's first animated JSA film and was released in April 2021. The new JSA film will reportedly be a followup to Justice Society: World War II, which is set in the Tomorrowverse.

Justice Society: World War II is the second installment in the Tomorrowverse, a series of interconnected DC animated films that began with 2020's Superman: Man of Tomorrow. The film focuses on Barry Allen's first encounter with the Speed Force, which accidentally sends him back in time to World War II where he helps the Justice Society of America defeat the Nazis. The film earned mostly positive reviews and currently has an 81 percent critic score on the review aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes. The film was followed by the two-part adaptation of Batman: The Long Halloween, which includes The Flash in a silent post-credits scene cameo.

Upcoming DC Animated Movies

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment also announced three new DC animated films at SDCC: Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham, Legion of Super-Heroes and Justice League: Warworld. Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons was also mentioned and will be the next animated film released under the DC Universe Animated Original Movies banner after Green Lantern: Beware My Power. Battle of the Super Sons will be the first fully CGI animated film under the DC Universe banner and features a voice cast led by Jack Dylan Grazer and Jack Griffo, with Troy Baker returning from previous DC projects as the voice of Bruce Wayne/Batman.
