Concept art from 2017's Justice League reveals Zack Snyder originally had a much scarier version of Steppenwolf in mind.

The image depicts a far less human-like Steppenwolf than the one that made the final cut of the film, which was also included in the post for comparison.

Portrayed in the film by Ciarán Hinds, Steppenwolf is a New God who came to Earth in search of the Mother Boxes, only to be defeated by the Justice League. The character was created by Jack Kirby and first appeared in 1972's New Gods #7.

Snyder's departure from Justice League caused a major shift in tone from his original vision, which has prompted the demand for a "Snyder Cut" of the film. Even members of the cast have shown support for the Snyder cut, including Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ray Fisher and Jason Momoa. Meanwhile, Snyder has continued to tease what he's since dubbed "Zack Snyder's Justice League" by posting behind-the-scenes photos, storyboards and more.
