Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder was once the godfather of Warner Bros.' DC Extended Universe. However, Snyder's initial plans -- which were said to span through five films -- were eventually altered after he stepped away from Justice League to cope with a family tragedy.
However, that hasn't stopped him from revealing pieces of his scrapped plans. Snyder has often divulged details about his cut of Justice League in online exchanges with fans. Just recently, the director revealed time travel would have been at the heart of Justice League 2; he also shared a photo of Cyborg from a deleted scene and unveiled an image of a young Darkseid.
Now, Snyder revealed his film would have included another New God.
On social media platform Vero, a fan asked Snyder about a specific moment featured in the Justice League trailer. The scene in question involved an exchange between two New Gods, where Steppenwolf explained that Earth was ripe for the picking. The fan asked Snyder about the two voices and wondered if the other belonged to Darkseid.
"It's Steppenwolf reporting to Desaad," Snyder answered, confirming that Darkseid's villainous adviser and expert torturer was at one time set to appear in Justice League.
Zack Snyder's announced sequel to Justice League would have hit theaters a few weeks ago, on June 14, 2019.
Next up for the DC Extended Universe is Cathy Yan's Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), slated for release Feb. 7, 2020; Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 1984, coming June 5 2020; James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, which arrives August 6, 2021; and Matt Reeves' solo Batman film, which will swing into theaters June 25, 2021.
