Zack Snyder recently commented on the gradual build-up to the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League, a director's cut he assumed Warner Bros. would ask him to stop discussing.

On Film Junkee Vodka Stream, Snyder remarked that the early days of teasing the director's cut was a rather uncertain time. "At the time I wasn't sure how much I could talk about it," he said in reference to the earliest stages of the rumored Snyder Cut when whispers were beginning to spread that a superior, unseen version of the film did not make it to screens.RELATED: Justice League Costume Test Reveals a VERY Different Look for Vulko

As more fans began to request the eventual release of the Snyder Cut, Snyder acknowledged the hunger for his product, saying, "I wanted to give them information about it," but he was hesitant due to the uncertainty regarding what he was allowed to say. As he continued to let little pieces of information slip, he was constantly thinking, "I don't know when someone is going to tell me to stop."

Despite this, Snyder continued to gradually release new teases about his version, operating under the assumption that once he crossed a line, Warner Bros. would step in and put an end to it. However, according to Snyder, no one ever approached him to cease the release of more information, saying, "in a lot of ways, I was emboldened."

It's now well-documented that the troubled production of the Justice League resulted in many cut scenes and reshoots. It was also around this time that awareness of the fact that what we got was not a reflection of Snyder's intent began to raise questions about whether it was salvageable with a director's cut. However, Snyder himself didn't think much of this at first, sharing his original cut with only a few people. "I honestly didn't think it would ever see the light of day," he said.

The online movement for the Snyder Cut finally obtained its sought-after result when Warner Bros. announced Zack Snyder's Justice League would be released in 2021 on HBO Max. The success of the campaign has even led people to question whether Snyder will release other director's cuts of his previous movies, but at present no others have been confirmed.

Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon. Zack Snyder's Justice League will premiere exclusively on HBO Max in 2021.
