In Nothing Was Delivered, we look at announced comic book projects that never came about. We'll try to find out WHY they didn't come out. I'm sure you all know tons of examples of comic book projects like these, so feel free to write me at brianc@cbr.com to tell me some for future columns.

Reader Jim S. wrote in about this one a while back. I did this one as a Comic Book Legends Revealed a few years back, but I guess it works here, as well!

In 2011 (perhaps even as far back as 2010), Phil Jimenez worked on a pitch for a crossover between the Justice League and the Transformers.

The Transformers had had a crossover with the New Avengers a few years earlier...

and obviously, almost as soon as they had a comic book they were teaming up with Spider-Man!

Jimenez described the story as follows, "Oh, what an epic that would have been. You missed out on Wonder Woman's invisible jet becoming a very cool Transformer." You can get a peek of that in the image above, along with an enormous Bat-former and, perhaps best of all, Optimus Prime as a Green Lantern." He later added, "Giving credit where credit is due: the idea for Optimus Prime as a GL was none other than IDW Publishing Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall's."

The problem was that DC was planning on launching the New 52 in the middle of 2011 and as a result, a number of miniseries that were planned for that period were pushed back. Something as complicated as a crossover with another comic book company had no chance at the time, especially with the Justice League continuity being rewritten by the New 52.

So all we got was that amazing Phil Jimenez artwork and the tales of what kind of an awesome comic book it would have been! But honestly, those things alone are still a lot better than NOT having that awesome story and the image in our own mind of what an invisible Transformer would have looked like in action!

Thanks for the suggestion, Jim!

If anyone has a suggestion for another interesting comic book series/story that never got published, let me know at brianc@cbr.com!
