A media analyst theorized that the decision to produce Zack Snyder's Justice League is more than to just appease fans.

Comscore media analyst Paul Dergarabedian spoke to Observer, speculating that Warner Bros. decision was not made to silence the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign, but to begin a long-term business plan for their brand. "There’s an X-factor to consider. 'Do we want this person to work elsewhere or do we want keep them in-house?;" Dergarabedian said while speaking of director Zack Snyder. "If it doesn't make hard financial or objective financial sense on its face, then there are subjective motivations and factors at play. They want to be in the Zack Snyder business just like Warners wants to be in the Christopher Nolan business. It's long-term strategy," he continued.

Furthermore, Dergarabedian suggested that not only is this a good way to keep Zack Snyder in its pocket; it is also a way to attract new subscribers to its streamer, HBO Max. The new streaming site is where the Snyder Cut of Justice League is set to make its premiere in 2021. Degarabedian believes that people first look at available streaming content and then at the price of the service when deciding whether to subscribe or not. Bringing an exclusive project as high profile as Justice League to its platform is a way to bring in a fresh batch of subscribers. "Maybe they've got plans for this that will make it feel more appealing to a broader cross-section of audiences or maybe it's about having the best reviewed project irrespective of its financial performance,” he stated.

It's been almost three years since Justice League hit the silver screen and was met with disappointment from both fans and critics alike. One of the reasons many believe the film did not perform to its potential is that midway into filming, the movie's original director, Zack Snyder, left due to personal matters. His role was taken by Joss Whedon, the helmer of Marvel's first two Avengers movies. Since then, a passionate band of fans has come together to form a movement dubbed #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, advocating for Snyder's original vision to be released.

Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon. Zack Snyder's Justice League will premiere exclusively on HBO Max in 2021.
