Ever since rumors about its existence began to surface, many fans longed for the release of the cut of 2017's Justice League that featured the vision of the movie's original director, Zack Snyder. Even select members of the cast and crew joined the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement, including Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot, Ray Fisher and even Ben Affleck. However, with the film confirmed to be making its debut on HBO Max in 2021 in a currently unknown format, Snyder promises his cut is something completely new.

While speaking to THR, Snyder -- who has stated he still hasn't seen the version that made its way to theaters -- and his wife and producer Deborah discussed Zack Snyder's Justice League and how different it would be from the theatrical release. "It will be an entirely new thing, and, especially talking to those who have seen the released movie, a new experience apart from that movie," he stated, later adding that the public "probably saw one-fourth of what [he] did" in the movie.

Snyder also noted that prior to when Warner Bros. Pictures Chairman Toby Emmerich called, he thought his cut "was a thing that in 20 years, maybe somebody would do a documentary and I could lend them the footage, little snippets of a cut no one has ever seen."

"With the new platform and streaming services, you can have something like this," Deborah Snyder added. "You can’t release something like this theatrically, but you could with a streaming service. It’s an opportunity that wasn’t there two years ago, to be honest."

Originally the director of Justice League, Snyder stepped down following his daughter's suicide. Joss Whedon would go on to helm the rest of the post-production work on the project, as well as extensive reshoots that radically altered the tone Snyder established for the DC Extended Universe with Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
