WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Justice League #4 by Scott Snyder, Jorge Jimenez, and Alejandro Sanchez, in stores now.

In just a short amount of time, the new Justice League has been forced to face a seemingly insurmountable number of threats. The Totality has come to change the universe forever, the Still Force is ready to attack, there are White Martians on the loose, and the Legion of Doom is out to get them.

But it's in Justice League #4 where the biggest threat of them all (literally!) has made its debut, with Sinestro expanding the ranks of the Ultraviolet Lanterns and recruiting a Corps so massive, it apparently outnumbers all the other Corps put together.

Yes, that means it's bigger than the Green Lanterns, Red Lanterns, Blue Lanterns, and all the rest of the DC Universe's Lantern Corps combined. That's a threat so large, its size is incomprehensible to us. In short, it's huge.

As previously revealed in Scott Snyder and Jorge Jimenez's run on Justice League, there was a secret portion of the Emotional Spectrum that was locked away long ago. With the Legion of Doom tracking down the seven secret forces of the universe, Sinestro has discovered the means to unlock the Invisible Spectrum and Umbrax, the sentient black sun powering it. He has seemingly discovered the ultimate power that can finally overcome the willpower of a Green Lantern, and now there is nothing left to stop Sinestro and his army.

The Invisible Spectrum is a well-hidden secret, but that doesn't mean people haven't heard about it. After the destruction of Xanshi years ago, John Stewart attempted to access a legendary power that he thought could undo his mistakes, but he never proved it even existed before ultimately giving up. Now the truth has come for him, and it's far more horrible than he ever imagined. John may believe that will is the strongest power in the universe, but he quickly learns that Sinestro has found a way to access something far more dangerous.

Ultraviolet Lanterns are powered by hate and violence, making them some of the most dangerous beings in the cosmos. When John was under the thrall of Sinestro, he brutally attacked the Justice League. His teammates were able to temporarily cure the affliction of Ultraviolet from his body, but Sinestro proved to the leader of the Green Lantern Corps that willpower is no match for the kind of energy he now controls.

Confronting John and Cyborg on the moon, the villain is able to use the Invisible Spectrum to fully corrupt the Green Lantern's body. He burns out all the willpower within John Stewart, destroying his Green Lantern ring entirely. In its place is the brand of the Ultraviolet Lantern, a sign that he is now a permanent member of Sinestro's new Corps. Though the two heroes ultimately flee, it seems that John's fight for free will is about to end.

Welcome To the Ultraviolet Lantern Corps

Amazingly enough, the greatest threat to the universe is not Sinestro and the conversion of John Stewart. There is actually an entire Ultraviolet Corps out there under the control of Umbrax, hidden away within the sentient black sun's phantom galaxy. The cosmic entity has taken control of entire planets, leaving an army of villainous Lanterns waiting for a leader to free them. When the Legion of Doom successfully unlocks the Still Force in Justice League #4, it allows the membrane dividing the universe from Umbrax's pocket dimension to weaken.

Sinestro is able to use the power of the Invisible Spectrum to reach out and make a call to everyone on Earth. He preys on the human race's base instincts and tendency to embrace chaos and hatred, recruiting the citizens of Earth into the Ultraviolet Corps. At this moment, Umbrax and his army come over into the universe, and Cyborg takes a moment to reflect that "Sinestro now leads the largest corps in eternity. All the other corps put together aren't even close."

You might be under the impression that the Ultraviolet Corps is just another color of ring wearers in a universe filled with them, but you might want to stop and re-assess. These Lanterns are powered by an entirely separate power source known as the Invisible Spectrum. After spending eons locked away from the rest of the universe, it has revealed itself to be even more powerful than any group of Lanterns before it. There was a reason it was considered too dangerous to control, and now the Invisible Spectrum has returned with a vengeance. If the Justice League is going defeat this threat, it will have to overcome the biggest corps that has ever existed.
