Justice League Opening Weekend Box Office Estimate Adjusts Way Down

Updated estimates have Justice League set for a $95 million weekend, which would mark a new domestic low for any DCEU film.

Although Justice League took home $13 million during its Thursday night preview showings -- two million more than box office darling Wonder Woman -- new updated estimates foresee that the superhero epic will fall well short of Warner Bros.' lofty expectations.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Justice League will end up earning $95 million, a far cry from the original estimates that had the ensemble prepped for a domestic opening weekend haul in the realm of $110 million. Should the new numbers hold, the return would give Justice League the lowest opening stateside of any of the DC Extended Universe's entries, and also the first to not open above the $100 million mark.

Global estimates have yet to roll in, but Justice League's long term success is also going to be a major question mark going forward now that the film has not been nearly as well-received as Wonder Woman. Patty Jenkins' thunderous DC debut rode the curtails of positive critical and fan reaction, eventually becoming the biggest box office run of any superhero origin film ever.

Simmons as Commissioner Gordon.
