While Jack Kirby's Fourth World is often depicted as being a bit more separated and self-contained from the wider DC Universe, with New Genesis and Apokolips focused on their own never-ending conflict, several New Gods have set up shop on Earth and even joined ranked with its superheroes. And several of the most prominent New Gods joined the DCU's biggest super-team of them all, the Justice League, defending the world not only from Darkseid but other bombastic threats.

Here are all the New Gods that have joined the Justice League and their activities on the DCU's premier heroic ensemble.

Mister Miracle

Mister Miracle

Created by Jack Kirby in 1971's Mister Miracle #1, Scott Free is the son of Highfather who was raised on Apokolips as part of a diplomatic trade-off with Darkseid. Enduring Granny Goodness' Terror Orphanages and constant abuse, Scott grew up to become a master escape artist, escaping to Earth with his wife Big Barda, with his escape sparking the renewed war between Apokolips and New Genesis.

While living in semi-retirement with his wife in the suburbs, the happy couple agreed to join the Justice League International spinning out of the 1986 crossover event Legends, detailing Darkseid's attempt to take over the Earth. During his time on the team, Scott fought the new villain Manga Khan, opting to retire from the team after he barely escaped a lengthy kidnapping at the supervillain's hands.

Big Barda

Introduced by Kirby in 1971's Mister Miracle #4, Big Barda was raised to become the leader of Granny Goodness's elite fighting force the Female Furies. After meeting Scott Free on Apokolips, Barda fell in love with the aspiring superhero and quietly began turning against Granny, working with the fellow New God Himon in leading the resistance against Darkseid's rule. Barda and Scott eventually married and Barda's defiance against Granny and Darkseid became public before the couple fled to Earth.

Joining the Justice League International alongside her husband, Barda was more intent on enjoying domestic bliss with Scott in retirement than pursuing a full-time commitment on the team. After Scott's retirement from the League after his ordeal at the hands of Manga Khan, Barda would continue to assist the League in his absence against significant threats before joining him in retirement after a battle against the Injustice League.

Oberon

Oberon was introduced alongside Scott Free by Kirby in Mister Miracle #1 as Scott's friend and manager for his escape artist career. Rescued by Scott's mentor and the original Mister Miracle Thaddeus Brown, Oberon went on to become Scott's manager after Thad's death and Scott subsequently succeeding him as the new Mister Miracle while forming a good-naturedly combative relationship with Barda.

When Scott and Barda join the Justice League International, Oberon expands his role to become the right-hand man for the team's corporate benefactor Maxwell Lord. After Max's true, villainous nature comes to light, Oberon severs all ties to him and goes back to focusing his professional ambitions on managing Scott's escape artist performances.

Lightray

Lightray flying in DC Comics

Created by Kirby in 1971's New Gods #1, Lightray is -- true to his moniker -- one of the brighter, more hopeful superheroes of the Fourth World. Raised on New Genesis, Lightray boasts a set of photonic powers and is more interested in resolving conflicts through diplomacy than brutal combat.

Lightray, along with Orion, were among the few heroes that answered a call put out by the Justice League to bolster its numbers in the early 90s. The New God would resurface to aid the team whenever they put an emergency call for reinforcements as they faced different cosmic threats.

Orion

Also introduced by Kirby in New Gods #1, Orion is the second of Darkseid, traded with Scott Free as part of a diplomatic agreement with New Genesis, raised by Scott's biological father Highfather. Despite his idyllic home, Orion inherited his father's innate rage and propensity for violence, displayed with his short temper as he rose to become New Genesis' most formidable warrior.

It was Orion that helped persuade the Justice League to recruit Lightray alongside him as they expanded their ranks. Later, Orion and Barda would serve as emissaries between the League and New Genesis, occasionally helping the team out whenever they found themselves in dire need of reinforcements.
