The following article contains spoilers for Dark Crisis: The Dark Army #1, on sale now from DC Comics.

One of DC's most powerful characters just got an even bigger power upgrade, and she's also got a new costume to match.

Kimiyo Hoshi's Doctor Light is among the group of superheroes led by Damian Wayne to locate the source of the darkness controlling Pariah's Dark Army. The story takes place in Dark Crisis: The Dark Army #1, written by Mark Waid, Delilah S. Dawson and Dennis Culver and drawn by Freddie E. Williams II and Jack Herbert. In the issue, Robin sends Light directly to the Orrery of Worlds to prevent its breach by the advancing Great Darkness, and resulting potentially instantaneous infection of the entire multiverse. Once there, Light discovers the true extent of her powers first imbued in her by the Monitor, enabling her to prevent the Darkness' advance -- and come away with a new, white costume replete with matching faceplate.

Doctor Light's upgrade ends up coming in handy for the group. Robin's calculations lead the team to the House of Heroes, or more specifically, what's left of the satellite of the original Monitor, where they reactivate an AI version of the Monitor's ally, Harbinger. But the program warns the heroes the Great Darkness is about to breach the Orrery, and once Light stops its spread, she returns to the House of Heroes to neutralize another threat: the Darkness-infected Justice League Incarnate. She quickly frees the JLI from the Darkness' influence, who then join Robin's group in its quest to find the source of the Dark Army's power.

In DC's Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths event, a broken and insane Pariah has corrupted the Great Darkness, subsequently drawing its power to subjugate the cosmos' most powerful beings into his Dark Army. Pariah has also used that power to recreate the original multiverse of infinite worlds -- including his own, destroyed in the events leading up to the original Crisis on Infinite Earths. The House of Heroes originally headquartered the Monitors who protected the multiverse prior to the events of Crisis.

The last surviving Monitor, in fact, created Hoshi's Doctor Light from this location in Crisis on Infinite Earths #4 by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez to aid in the battle against the Anti-Monitor and his Shadow Demons. Light later delivers a seemingly decisive and fatal blow to the Anti-Monitor in the series' final issue, but the cosmic villain is ultimately defeated by Earth-2's Superman before the multiverse is folded into a single universe.

Doctor Light has no connection to DC's super-villain of the same name, and has gone on to become a member of the Justice League at various times.
