The following contains major spoilers for Batman: Fortress #2, available now from DC.

DC's Batman: Fortress #2 sees Cyborg cut in half by a Kryptonian weapon, while Flash is also injured and several other Justice Leaguer members are met with an ambiguous fate.

Batman: Fortress #2 comes from writer Gary Whitta, artist Darick Robertson, colorist Diego Rodriguez and letterer Simon Bowland. At the beginning of the issue, Batman has gathered the Justice League after he and Alfred detected an oncoming alien vessel hovering above the Indian Ocean in Batman: Fortress #1. Who these aliens are or what they want is unknown at the time of the meeting; however, Batman does tell his fellow superheroes that they appear to be a "highly advance species technologically."

While Superman is away for "unknown reasons" and the Green Lantern Corps curiously haven't responded to the Justice League's distress call, the rest of the heroes set off to deal with the aliens. Things quickly go wrong when the aliens unleash a number of high-tech drones that make quick work of the jets accompanying the League. In the midst of the battle, one of the drones cuts Cyborg in half, while Barry Allen/Flash also breaks his right leg. Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman and Hawkman, meanwhile, all become entrapped in a cocoon originating out of the alien ship.

Cyborg wakes up on the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier and tells Batman that the alien technology isn't as unfamiliar as it may seem. "When I was up there, I got close enough to scan it," he says. "This outer structure is shielded -- most of my sensors couldn't penetrate it. But I saw enough." He projects an image to Batman, who stares at it for a moment before letting out, "Kryptonian?"

After the conversation, Batman returns to the Batcave with a determination to figure out how to beat the aliens and rescue the missing Justice Leaguer members. Having told Cyborg that he has the equipment to fix him in the cave, accompanying Batman is the now-detached head of Victor Stone. The issue ends with three aliens -- seemingly, the aliens from the ship above the Indian Ocean -- landing in Smallville and searching for Superman. When they don't find him at Kent Farm, the aliens burn the place down and continue on their search to find the missing Man of Steel.
