Though Justice League received a new budget to finish effects and shoot additional scenes, the production had to recycle costumes from past films.

Zack and Deborah Snyder spoke to THR about the process of reviving Justice League for its four-hour HBO Max premiere this week. Though they were able to get many of the actors back together, they couldn't just create new superhero costumes from scratch. But for shots like the Knightmare scene, the aesthetic ended up disguising the fact that they had to pull old costumes out of storage.

"Luckily it was post-apocalyptic, because we went through the three cowls that were in good shape," Deborah Snyder said. "At one point, all of a sudden Ben put it on, and it just ripped. Because everything was disintegrating. Our costume people were like, trying to tape it up."

Zack Snyder elaborated on just what it took to keep everything from literally falling to pieces: "The costumes were definitely falling apart. But we held them together with some duct tape and baring wire and we muscled through."

Aside from issues with the costumes, the Snyders had to contend with other issues, like scheduling conflicts. Deborah Snyder revealed that the Batman and Joker scenes didn't feature Ben Affleck and Jared Leto in the same room together. Meanwhile, Ezra Miller was filming another project. "Ezra was shooting Fantastic Beasts, so Zack directed him over Zoom," Snyder said. "His crew was gracious enough to shoot him, and Zack piped in over Zoom. Ben and Jared (Leto) were not available on the same days, so they were shot separately. Ben was shot with the rest of the group (including Fisher, Amber Heard and Joe Manganiello). We planned that in COVID around everybody's schedule, but with the impending deadline."

In the end, Snyder was able to finish up his project and even include moments that weren't originally part of the plan.
