The Hall of Justice is one of the most iconic locations in the DC Universe, often based out of Washington, D.C. while serving as the headquarters for the Justice League. With its whereabouts well-known to the general public, the building makes quite the high-profile target for the DCU's supervillain community. Designed by Batman and the Green Lantern John Stewart, the Hall of Justice is packed with plenty of state-of-the-art defensive systems to keep its occupants safe from even the most nefarious forces.

And now, Justice League Annual #2 shows these defenses in action as they're tested against a new target: the Justice League itself.

The Dark Knight assembles his teammates back at the Hall of Justice after finding a man apparently murdered on the premises. As the team conducts a joint investigation, they quickly learn that they are sealed in the subbasement where the corpse was first discovered. And as the core quintet of heroes attempts to escape, they are subjected to defenses designed to specifically confront their greatest enemies that prove just as effective when turned against themselves, making their imprisonment inside of their own headquarters that much more dire.

The subbasement is immediately flooded with red sun radiation, quickly draining Superman's powers, making him unable to break free from the chamber. The Flash attempts to use his connection to the Speed Force to vibrate through the walls only to discover that the defenses have triggered randomized molecular vibrations of their own, accidentally breaking his ribs as Barry Allen attempts to run through the wall before being violently stopped.

When Green Lantern tries to blast through the walls with his Power Ring, the chamber is revealed to repel any energy projections generated from the emotional spectrum. Before Wonder Woman can attempt to break free, the rest of the team warn her that the walls are inscribed with runes that would defend it from anyone with magical energy.

Batman reveals that the red sun radiation plan had been installed into the Hall of Justice in case the facility was ever infiltrated by General Zod. The randomized molecular vibrations had been designed with the Reverse-Flash in mind, specifically to prevent Eobard Thawne from using his own super-speed from phasing through the walls. The emotional spectrum repellant was created to counteract Sinestro, quickly proving to be just as effective against Green Lanterns as members of the Sinestro Corps while the magical engravings were included for any number of supernatural supervillains.

The Flash Hall of Justice

And even as the League does manage to escape the subbasement, they discover the Hall of Justice's sentry bots have been reprogrammed to target the team with their safety protocols completely turned off by the remains of the Eradicator, the artificial Kryptonian foe who once posed as Superman after the Man of Steel's death.

In developing the perfect defenses for the Hall of Justice to counteract their deadliest enemies, the Justice League has unknowingly built their own headquarters to be effectively suited to combat themselves. With a threat from within able to hijack the Hall of Justice's systems, the League's usual base of operations became a hall of horrors, with the heroes encountering one deathtrap after another as they try to escape from their own headquarters.
