As Future State introduces a potential timeline that's poised to heavily inform the DC Universe's upcoming Infinite Frontier era, a new Justice League has taken on the iconic mantles of the previous generation of superheroes to defend the universe. While some are familiar faces have been introduced before Future State, much of the League has changed as they protect a world with its own unique dangers.
While these characters might be unfamiliar to readers, they're not alien to the aging Legion of Doom, who offer a brief overview of each member at the start of Future State: Justice League #1, before the League faces another threat from the team's past.
Superman
Jon Kent, son of Clark and Lois Lane, has long been established as the leader of DC's next heroic generation, introduced to the DC Rebirth as the new Superboy after being born while his parents were trapped in a pocket universe for much of the New 52 era. With Clark exiled from Earth, Jon has returned to his own time, after serving in the 31st century as part of the Legion of Super-Heroes, to take on the mantle of the new Superman.
As seen in Future State: Superman of Metropolis #1, Jon faces a mix of his father's old enemies and new threats that constantly endanger his hometown and the DCU. While some elements of the general public are still uncertain about this younger Man of Steel, the Legion of Doom begrudgingly admits Jon has more than adequately filled his father's shoes.
Wonder Woman
With Diana Prince apparently missing, Yara Flor has risen up to take on the mantle of Wonder Woman from her Themysciran sister. Last year, Diana discovered that a third tribe of Amazons, hidden for millennia, existed within the undiscovered wilds of the Brazilian rainforests. Armed with golden bolas and working alongside a pantheon of Brazilian deities, Yara has made the mantle of Wonder Woman her own.
The Legion of Doom's briefing reveals that while Diana was intent on bringing peace and love to humanity, Yara's mission expanded to bring unity and harmony to the gods themselves.
Green Lantern
Introduced in the miniseries Far Sector by N.K Jemisin and Jamal Campbell, Sojourner "Jo" Mullein has quickly herself to be a very different, largely self-sufficient Green Lantern. The Young Animal tale followed Jo recently after her recruitment into the Green Lantern Corps while investigating a murder mystery that rocked a faraway world to its core.
With Future State marking Jo's biggest incorporation into the DCU, the Legion of Doom reveal that Jo solved a mystery that brought together all the Corps that impacted the entire course of Oa and the Guardians of the Universe. She's also referred to as the best detective in the DC Multiverse.
Batman
Gotham City is an interesting state of affairs in Future State, with the villainous Magistrate ruling over the city with an iron fist. Opposing him is a new Batman, Tim Fox, the son of Lucius Fox who takes on the Magistrate and many familiar foes as a much different Dark Knight than Bruce Wayne.
The Legion of Doom reveals that Tim's unique approach to crimefighting succeeded in one way that Bruce's never did: Tim was successful in saving Gotham from crime, which suggests that he will eventually overthrow the Magistrate.
The Flash
A new Flash has run into Future State after previously making their debut in DC's Merry Multiverse holiday special. A member of Teen Justice, Jess Chambers is a non-binary speedster that went by the superhero moniker Kid Quick before taking on the mantle of The Flash.
The Legion of Doom reveals Jess ran through the DC Multiverse to warn the main DCU about a multiversal conspiracy and decided to make their home on this Earth to help with the clean-up from the warned cataclysm.
Aquawoman
The final member of the new Justice League is Andi Curry, the daughter of Aquaman and Mera, all grown up while still living in her father's lighthouse home at Amnesty Bay. Despite the team's rules not to fraternize with one another as they still grow to trust one another, Andi appears to be in a relationship with Jess.
The Legion of Doom's briefing reveals Andi helped unite worlds as Aquaman in a way her parents never quite could, however at tremendous personal cost, although the details of that price are left unsaid.
