Justice League Dark artist Alvaro Martínez has shared some character designs from his upcoming Justice League comic book series.
The forthcoming series is written by James Tynion IV and drawn by Martínez, Raul Fernandez and Brad Anderson. It centers on a team of magic and horror characters led by Wonder Woman. According to the cover of the first issue, Zatanna, Swamp Thing, and Detective Chimp will be on the team, but it has been hinted that many more members exist.
Here are a few designs for the series..you can expect EVERYBODY from the magic corner of DC to show up in the series... and I´m drawing them all, super crazy 🤪 pic.twitter.com/1qvVMYl4SK— Alvaro Martínez Bueno (@AMartinezBueno) March 24, 2018
Following the initial announcement, Martínez took to Twitter to show off character designs. It is clear that some interesting design choices were made for this series. Swamp Thing was given a beard in order to make him look very much like Alan Moore, one of the more noted creators to work on the character. Zatanna also appears to wear a costume that combines elements from all of her previous looks.
The artwork also reveals that Dr. Kurt Langstrom aka Man-Bat will also be a member of the team. Depicted as both hero and villain in the past, it feels like Man-Bat could hold a similar role on the team that Clayface previous played during Tynion's run on Detective Comics.
Launching out of the events of Justice League: No Justice, Justice League Dark debuts in June as a monthly title. It was announced alongside Justice League Odyssey by Joshua Williamson and Stjepan Sejic.
