WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the story "Propheties" from Future State: Justice League #1, by Ram V, Marcio Takara, Marcelo Maiolo and Rob Leigh, on sale now.

In the annals of DC history, it's safe to say Etrigan the Demon is the Justice League Dark's most terrifying hero. Trapped in the body of Jason Blood, the Demon has been bound to the human by Merlin as he's tried to make amends as penance for his bloody past. He's a demonic powerhouse, filled with hellfire and a passion for killing, but there's added value in Jason as well for his knowledge acquired over the centuries.

This makes them a dangerous combo for supernatural foes, but in the Future State: Justice League back-up about the Justice League Dark, Ragman has easily supplanted Etrigan as the group's resident terrifying powerhouse.

Rory Regan inherited the Ragman suit from his dad, Gerry, but it got out of hand. The cloak's been hungering for souls, but Rory won't have anything to do with it again as he loses himself in it. Now, Zatanna and Detective Chimp, the new host for Etrigan, arrive at Rory's workshop as they want to stop Merlin's hunters and knights, hoping Rory will help with relics they've discovered. They still believe in the Resistance, although the likes of Zauriel and many other magical users are being extinguished all over the globe. Still, they think Rory has a part to play, even if he's in denial.

Rory does admit he sold Constantine and some other wizards charms for a cloaking spell, but that's about it. He really doesn't want to become a mystical rebel as it'll attract the hunters. Eventually, these forces come for Rory anyway, and Etrigan can't fight back against his master's soldiers due to his bond. However, he can power up the cloak, which Zatanna desperately needs for aid. Luckily, Etrigan can summon souls from hell and one violent giant, in particular, helps turn Ragman into a titan with a lust for blood.

This is Svari, the Butcher of Harfsrfjord, a Viking killer who's double the size of the hunters. This transforms Rory into the biggest, baddest Ragman ever, and he roars and slaughters his enemies in a way that recalls Etrigan at his most absolutely brutal. It's pure, unabashed rage which does frighten Zee and Bobo a bit, until a lucid Rory emerges on the other side.

After the mauling, they teleport to Vegas to figure out what Constantine's up to in hiding, and it's clear even Rory had no clue the kind of creature he could become. Fortunately for all involved, there don't appear to be any after effects, so Rory may have just found a sustainable way to unleash Ragman's might.
