At this year's WonderCon, former Justice League Dark director Doug Liman addressed his version of the film and whether or not he planned to borrow from Guillermo del Toro's original vision.

"It was completely different. I may do these sort of big high concept movies, but I always choose projects where I see myself in them. There has to be a really personal connection to it," Liman told ScreenGeek. "At the end of the day, I wasn’t gonna find myself in Del Toro’s version of Justice League Dark. I just wouldn’t see myself in that. That’s why I basically have to develop the things that I’m gonna make – which is why I’m sitting here saying in Impulse, I see myself in this 16-year-old female character... I just do." He added that he didn't have any input for Warner Bros. Studios to improve or change the DCEU's current vision and direction.

Introduced in 2011 as part of DC Comics’ New 52 relaunch, Justice League Dark follows a group of supernatural heroes fighting magical and demonic threats outside the scope of the traditional Justice League. The team’s roster has included John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna and many more. While the team has never been adapted for live-action, a Justice League Dark direct-to-video animated film was released in 2017. Del Toro was originally attached to direct a live-action adaptation, with Liman boarding after he left due to scheduling conflicts. Liman later stepped down because of scheduling conflicts.

Liman's next project is Impulse, an upcoming YouTube Red series set in the same universe as his 2008 film Jumper, which starred Hayden Christensen as teleporter David Rice who is pursued by a secret society determined to kill him. Adapted from Steven Gould’s 2013 novel of the same name, Impulse follows David’s daughter Millie Harrison-Rice, who learns about her own ability to teleport.

Justice League Dark does not have a release date.
