WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, now available on Digital HD.

Justice League Dark: Apokolips War brings the DC Animated Movie Universe to an end in a very explosive fashion. Following the movies that came before, Superman decides to launch a proactive attack on Apokolips, not realizing Darkseid was spying through Cyborg's tech. This leads to the League getting slaughtered and Darkseid's forces enslaving Earth.

The final act of the film finds Darkseid conquering Oa two years later, which leaves Apokolips vulnerable for one final assault. A powerless Man of Steel arrives with a new squad after Lex Luthor helps them infiltrate the fiery planet with a plan to blow it up and ensure Darkseid doesn't have his war machine to come home to. But when they get there, just like the first failed wave, they discover a bunch of shocking secrets that change the future.

BREAKING DARKSEID'S FURIES

Superman, Raven, Constantine, Damian Wayne, and Etrigan meet warped cybernetic versions of Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Mera, and Hawkman as mindless Furies controlled by Batman. The Dark Knight's been enslaved in the Mobius Chair, carrying out Darkseid's will. Etrigan gets killed by Wonder Woman, but Constantine makes a big play by using "techno-magic" to free Cyborg, who's the heart of the planet.

This breaks the hold on the Furies and the big plan to destroy Apokolips' generator has been shot because the battery for the reactor is actually Barry Allen on a cosmic treadmill. Superman, wearing Lex's most advanced war-suit, saves Flash but they realize they don't have a way to blow the planet up. So now, they must kill Darkseid or figure out a new plan of attack at his citadel where Batman's running the show. Superman thinks seeing Damian will free Bruce's mind because he knows Bruce felt Nightwing's death.

THE BIG LOSSES

Unfortunately, Batman's as cruel as ever, insulting Damian and his mom, which leads to a brutal battle. Superman gets owned by Darkseid but the landscape changes dramatically when they lose the Man of Steel after Trigon is freed from Raven's mind. Constantine wants the demon to use him as a host but it exploits a magical loophole and possesses Superman, turning Kal-El into a demonic Superman. They've lost their biggest card and the beast snaps Constantine's neck, garnering true freedom.

As for Batman, he cuts Damian up with his Kryptonite sword but just as he's about to kill him, his son's face reminds him of Crime Alley, snapping him out of it. The Bat flings the sword into Darkseid's eye, and the villain uses his Omega Sanction in return, only for Damian to step in and get burned. He dies, reminding his dad to never succumb to the darkness again and to save Raven. The losses don't stop there, though, as Lois Lane, Lex, and Harley's Suicide Squad blow up Lex's tower and the teleporter, with her last message to Clark breaking Trigon's hold as he attempts to kill Darkseid to see who'll rule the galaxy.

THE EPIC RETURNS

Clark uses Trigon's magic to restore himself in costume while Darkseid traps Trigon's essence in a unique Omega Beam ball. This evens the playing field and Superman begins pummelling Darkseid, although he's still no match to kill the dictator. Constantine also returns to life as Zatanna got him into heaven, but temporarily, as she wanted to let him know he didn't run away from the first battle; she used a compulsion spell so he'd flee and be saved.

Raven cries over Damian's body and with her full powers unlocked, she brings him back to life, evolving and now donning a white costume. The gang makes one final stand, with Cyborg indicating he can teleport Apokolips into a black hole, eliminating Darkseid as well. Vic reveals he'll transport them all home and bring the Paradooms (Parademon/Doomsday hybrids) back from Earth to kill them all. However, he can't be removed from the core and they'll need someone to hold Darkseid.

ONE FINAL PLAY

Darkseid has no clue what's transpiring as he's caught up with Superman. But just as he gets ready to take the Man of Steel down once and for all, he's blindsided by Trigon. Constantine and Raven freed him and allowed the demon his ultimate goal: to see who's the strongest god ever.

Superman meets his allies, including the Furies and a weakened Flash, and they teleport home. Raven's the last to go, thanking her dad for his sacrifice as well. Vic then brings Darkseid's army back and starts pushing everyone into the black hole. While the threat finally comes to an end, the cost to the heroes has been very high.

PROJECT: REBUILD

The victory's short-lived, though, because as the damaged heroes gather at a fallen Titans tower, Batman reveals Darkseid's Reapers, which drained Earth's magma to send to Apokolips, have done too much damage. The planet will lose billions of lives soon and won't ever recover. Basically, Earth and its people are done for, but as usual, Superman wants to repair the molten core. They have to find a way to fix Earth's compromised rotation but deep down, the heroes know it's all over as the planet will either freeze or burn to death.

As Constantine listens in, he tells a rejuvenated Barry he has to create another Flashpoint. Barry promised Iris he wouldn't do this again, but Constantine reminds him a reborn yet imperfect universe is still better than what they have now. Barry embraces this speech on change and second chances, speeding off without permission. A blinding light sets in to rewrite existence, with Damian and Raven finally getting their kiss before the credits roll.
